Custom Two-Story Shop & Home Barndominium – Burton, Texas

This custom barndominium project in Burton, Texas combines a spacious shop with comfortable future living quarters, creating a versatile building designed to meet both residential and workspace needs under one roof.

The project features a 40' x 80' x 16' weld-up steel building with a 4/12 roof pitch, a 104-foot L-shaped porch, and an additional 4-foot front porch, providing extensive covered outdoor space around the home. The exterior is finished with 26-gauge Charcoal Gray R-panel siding, black trim, and a 26-gauge Galvalume roof, giving the building a clean, modern appearance while offering long-lasting durability.

Three black insulated roll-up doors provide convenient access to the shop area, while multiple black-framed windows and walk doors bring natural light into both the shop and future living spaces. The entire exterior shell is insulated to improve comfort and energy efficiency as the project moves into the next phase of construction.

The structure is built using 4½-inch steel pipe columns set on concrete piers with welded base plates, red-primed roof and wall purlins, galvanized porch framing, and a reinforced concrete foundation designed for long-term performance. The slab includes 4,000 PSI concrete beneath the building, 3,000 PSI concrete on the porches, #3 rebar on 16-inch centers, perimeter and interior grade beams, and a heavy plastic moisture barrier.

One of the standout features of this project is its thoughtful combination of living and workspace. The expansive covered porches extend the usable living area outdoors while the large shop provides ample room for vehicles, equipment, hobbies, or a home-based business. It's a great example of how a custom barndominium can be designed around the owner's lifestyle today while providing flexibility for years to come.
